Whether you plan to keep your Trick or Treat plans or stay in this Halloween, there are ways to stay safe and have fun without cancelling a celebration most kids look forward to each year! This has been an unusual year for all of us. Since the start of this year and being struck with the COVID 19 pandemic, we have all found innovative ways to learn, work, entertain ourselves, and spend quality time with family and friends who are near and far.
Celebrating Halloween and other festive holidays coming up can still be enjoyed – it will just be a little different. No matter how different we all choose to celebrate this year, there’s no reason why we can’t find ways to make children smile and give them a little fun!

Costume Ideas

Exposure to COVID and other viruses remains a huge concern for all of us, and keeping one another healthy is still a priority in our communities for staying safe. There are quite a few costumes that help with keeping safety in mind.
Super Heroes and Villains

There are so many Super Heroes that adhere to the pandemic rules of safety. Spiderman, DeadPool, Iron Man, Black Panther, The Flash, Dr. Doom, Storm Troopers, and Darth Vader, just to name a few!

When you start to think about how much we cover up during Halloween with or without taking pandemic caution, it suddenly doesn’t seem so hard to do! Ghosts, Skeletons, and the Scream Villain are just a few ideas to get your creative thinking caps on!

Girly Costumes and First Responders

Belly Dancers, Nurses,  and Doctors are also perfect costume ideas or wearing face masks!

And who says a Princess, Pirate, or any costume of your child’s choice can’t adorn a cool looking face mask with her tiara, his sword or wand?

Table or Hang Your Tricks or Treats!

Social distancing still needs to be practiced, but we can still make our trick or treaters smile! Prepare a table outside – either on your porch or driveway - with your candy and treats in a bowl. I’d put a sign that says, “Please take one.” Most parents and kids will honor this and take just one. We did this one year when we weren’t home and when we came home there was still candy in the bowl!

Another idea we’re doing this year (I’ll post pictures later) is taping a bead necklace with a candy bar on our garage door for kids to have fun picking! This is also a great way for our kids with sensory issues to get them reaching and pulling the candy off the garage!  We’ll also set out a table with a bowl of candy too, but we thought this might add an element of fun for the kids! We plan to leave a bottle of hand sanitizer on the table too!

Six Feet of Separation

One of my favorite things to do each year is greet and treat the many children and teens who knock on our door in search of candy! I love guessing the costumes and seeing their smiling faces. You can still enjoy watching all the kids dressed in their best by sitting outside and placing the candy in a bowl on a table six feet away. Many families will appreciate your consideration for everyone’s safety.

Add a Hallowseek Candy Hunt to Your Annual Tradition

In addition to the classic fun with pumpkin carving, decorating cookies, and creating your own face masks -  We can make the Halloween day extra fun by making your kids hunt for candy at home – inside and outside. You can easily make a game out of this by getting a little prize for the child who finds the most candy or the child who finds all hidden pieces of candy.

Anonymously “Boo” Your Neighbors

This latest and greatest trending tradition is fun to do with the kids and has become something flattered recipients welcome each year. It’s a simple Halloween gesture that includes placing an anonymous treat or gift (nothing is too small) at the door-step of your lucky friend or neighbor. You can choose to do as many “Boos” as you wish, but the idea is to write a little note that let’s them know they’ve been “Booed!”  The ideas for Booing people are endless. They can be baskets, flowers, or even a little box of candy. So long as they have a note attached with a short and sweet message that sounds like this:
“You’ve Been Booed!”
Halloween’s Witches and Goblins are flying near
Don’t waste time - Pass on this Boo Cheer
Select a friend and start your mission
By celebrating friendship with this holiday tradition!"

You can totally steal my made up Boo message, it’s all good in love and friendship – besides you’ll make someone’s day!
