The season for gift giving has once again arrived and ABLE United is in the holiday spirit! ABLE United wants members of the disability community to start planning for their future and jump-start their savings! ABLE United is offering savings account starters the chance to win $1,000! What a great way to jump start a savings account!
If you haven’t opened your ABLE United savings account yet, now is the best time to jump-start your or your loved one’s savings account today!  In addition to recently reducing the monthly account fee to $0.00, they are also offering individuals who create a new account during the months of November and December the opportunity to win a $1,000 contribution – and if you use my promo code “SENSORY17” during registration, they will send you a free gift.
One of the greatest perks I love about my son Richie’s ABLE United account, is the ability to have family and friends contribute to his savings account on his Birthday, other celebratory life events and on holidays! It’s important to note, especially during the holiday season, that anyone may contribute to an ABLE United account via the eGift portal, check, money order, cashier’s check, or automatic contribution.

ABLE United provides family members and friends with the opportunity to make a gift to an individual with a disability in the same manner as they contribute to a 529 college savings account. While an ABLE United account is an option to consider, they must be mindful of some of the differences between an ABLE United account and a 529 college savings account. The differences they should take into consideration might include:
  • ABLE United accounts can only receive up to $14,000 in contributions from all sources per year (this limit increases to $15,000 in 2018).
  • Funds in an ABLE United account can be used tax-free for a wide variety of qualified disability expenses including housing, transportation, medical, and even basic living expenses.

To see how ABLE United has helped people like you plan for – and fund – their future, click here to read Bridget Hawk’s story on how her son used his ABLE account to save for his first car.
Open your account by December 31, 2017, and you could be the one lucky winner to receive a $1,000 account contribution from ABLE United! To get started, click here - and if you have any questions along the way, call their customer service hotline at 1-888-524-ABLE (2253) or email them at customerservice@ableunited.com.

I'm in the "saving" mode right now. I just downloaded a bunch of apps and got my planners together so I can bump up my saving plans for the new year. This blog couldn't have come at a better time, thank you!!

I keep putting off setting a savings account for my son. This post reminds me that I need to look into all the options. Is this only for disabled kids or anyone can open an account with them?

It's never too late to start planning for the future, Tamara. The ABLE United program is for qualifying children and individuals with disabilities. Historically, individuals with disabilities who receive federal assistance (medicaid, social security, etc.) were never able to have savings or assets that exceeded $2,000. This made future planning and saving almost impossible for many families. It's exciting times!

I think is a very good opportunity to invest in the future of our family members. Thank you for sharing.
