This week, I received notice that I was selected as one of Latism’s top Latina influencers.  Aside from being strikingly surprised (hundreds of applications from talented Latino bloggers and influencers throughout the country are submitted annually), I feel overwhelmed with gratitude, and I am deeply honored.
Latism is a non-profit, nonpartisan organization that promotes the advancement of civic engagement, as well as the social and economic status of the Latino community.  Since 2009, this passionate organization has engaged Latino communities by igniting the influential power of innovative digital technologies and various social networking outlets.  Each year since its inception, Latism hosts a conference that has been marked as the most anticipated event for highlighting Latino advancement in technology and social networking, and its use for charging their advocacy efforts.   This year, the Latism 2015 Conference theme is: “Moving Latinos to Drive the Innovation Economy.”  Latism calls upon some of the nations most recognized entrepreneurs and professionals to lend their expertise and speak of the various and most powerful sources for educating, empowering, and information sharing.  Latism also selects the nation’s top Latino influencers who cultivated clever ways for using social media for effective grassroots advocacy, educating, and inspiring Latino constituents to take action.

I provide assistance to Spanish and English speaking families of children with disabilities with navigating the special education system. I assist them with accessing the services they need.  My site, Sensory Friends, is designed to help families increase their participation in communities.  Often times, families of children with disabilities are isolated and tend to avoid participating in community and recreational activities. My hope is that families will increase their participation in community and recreational activities, but I also work towards making sure they are welcomed to do so.

This will be my first time attending the Latism Conference, and I can’t begin to describe how excited I am. The world is evolving in a rapid rate, and I see many good changes coming. Change is eminent, and organizations like Latism, who not only promote progressive change and civic engagement for the Latino population, they provide the opportunity for influencers and bloggers to voice the needs of their Latino communities. They provide the education and training that enables the empowerment and advocacy for many voiceless communities. They increase the opportunity for positive change in Latino communities throughout the country. Theirs is a shared vision with the millions who have enrichened our country with their delightful cultures, and I am one of many who are proud to be Latina, and serve a community of people for which am privileged and honored to be a member.

This is a sponsored post, however, all opinions written are my own.

Sincerely, Christine SensoryFriends
