This is my first time being recognized as a Top Latina Digital Influencer, and I am still so honored and grateful. This is also the first time I attended LATISM’s annual conference. I wrote about my original invitation from LATISM in a previous blog, please check it out here. I truly had no idea what to expect, except that it was hosted in D.C., a city abundant with American history and monuments for which I was anxious to pay tribute. Aside from many other important privileged opportunities, I got to visit the monuments of my favorite President, Abraham Lincoln, and my icon for powerful and results-oriented advocacy, Dr. Martin Luther King.
I must pay tribute to MiTú, for this trip would never have happened without their support. MiTú is a Latino Digital Network that focuses on how consumers and brands connect with the Latino Mobile generation. Mitú’s generous contribution made this trip possible for many of LATISM’s awarded Latino Digital Influencers from all over the country, myself included. Thank you MiTu! Your partnership and continued support of the advancement of the Latino community is highly appreciated.
I am forever honored for being invited to the LATISM 2015 event, and I was touched by the warm welcome of LATISM’s leadership. We were given the opportunity to visit Congressional Representatives. While some of us were able to meet with legislative representatives to advocate for our various causes, others learned of the legislative process and were given a tour of the congressional building. It was a rainy morning, but that didn’t stop our passionate group of Latino community leaders from voicing their concerns and sharing their suggestions for positive change.
I must also mention that this would be the first time I experienced being surrounded by an eclectic group of exceptional Latino writers, bloggers, and vloggers. Each of them gifted in writing about their chosen domain, whether it be about food, traveling, parenting, daily living, or social causes. I learned so much from each of them and I received such kindness, that I don't consider them to be just fellow bloggers, they are friends. This was not an environment for cut-throat competition or envy. This was an opportunity for networking, collaborating, and sharing best practices with those just starting out - like myself. There was a common understanding and respect for each other’s work, and help and support was instinctively offered to friends in need.
There was one moment in particular that is etched in memory. We had just spent a fantastic evening celebrating the top winners at LATISM’s sophisticated Gala Awards Ceremony. Just when I thought the evening couldn’t be topped by the delicious food, honoring awardees, and a band that played the best salsa music – not even those with two left feet could remain seated! I went sight-seeing with my two esteemed room-mates, Babushka and Jes (Connie stayed behind dancing)! We found our way to the Lincoln memorial and met up with other talented members of our extended influential team. We each shared our dreams, hopes, and aspirations. Not one was the same, but each led to improving communities, shaping the nation, and making the world a better place.
